HIIT Swimming Workout: Can you do HIIT Workout with Swimming?

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is one of the best cardio exercises today. Is the fastest, most efficient way to get in shape and it became a very popular way to burn more fat.

High intensity interval training is done when elevate your heart rate for a brief period, followed by resting for a given period. A perfect example is when running. Sprinting for 1 minute, then walking for two minutes is high intensity interval training. Just remember HIIT training, wasn’t meant to be done every day. There are many ways that you can do high intensity interval training, but what about Swimming? Can you do high intensity interval training with swimming?

Can you do HIIT Workout with Swimming?

Swimming is an incredibly body workout. I love swimming and I was really angry when my friend told me about the benefits of HIIT exercise and that is possible with many aerobic exercises, but not with swimming. I said to him, no way, that’s impossible! And after a lot of research and questions I found out that I was right and he was wrong. Yes you can definitely do HIIT workout with swimming.

Swimming is an excellent cardio, but another important benefit is that pool water provide resistance while swimming, and that makes your muscles to work harder, as a result swimming decrease your time in the gym and grown your muscles in less time!

So here is a swimming HIIT program:

100m warmup – freestyle at a slow pace

40m – sprint freestyle

80m – slow freestyle

or you can do:

100m warmup – freestyle at a slow pace

40m – sprint freestyle

80m – just walking on pool.

Repeat with any swimming stroke you like (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, or butterfly) and add more meters if necessary.
